Spring Loaded Window Punch Does Not work
I do not write to many reviews and only pretty much write them when a product is bad. I am a Career Firefigher and purhchased a bunch of these for fellow Firefighter due to it being a knife and a spring loaded window punch. Sounds like the all in one rescue tool right? I must say the knife is excellent, but so are all other Smith & Wesson Knife's. The Spring Loaded Window Punch is JUNK. We recently had an extrication class where we got to tear apart car after car. Their was about 5 of us that had this knife with the spring loaded punch and it does not work. It is designed to press against the window, flip the lever, and the window shatters. Did that happen onece? NO it did not... If you keep pulling back on it say 3 to 5 times and just keep unloading in the same spot it will shatter the window, but we are talking 3 to 5 times. This was not just on one knife it was on ALL....Total disappointment due to what they cost when you can just buy a $5.00 spring loaded punch that shatters the window the FIRST TIME and buy a Smith & Wesson knife that is a lot cheaper and you are all set to go... It was a nice concept having two tools in one, but the Spring Loaded Punch is JUNK.... I contacted Smith & Wesson figuring that they are so big they would respond to me as to why 5 knives did not work. Did I get a response? NOPE...My advise is to just buy a 5.00 window punch, because they work the first time and get a cheaper Smith & Wesson knife until they get this problem corrected. Will the correct it? Who knows, but it definately needs a spring it it that has more power, because having to keep pulling back on the spring loaded punch 3 to 5 times is not acceptable. Lets face it... You can get one for 5.00 that does it right the first time.... I am sure all you in the Fire & Polie Service do not want to stand their with hopes the window will shatter as you keep pulling on it like a mad man to get it to do its job. The 5.00 one that you push and it releases pressure shatters the window EVERYTIME....I am still waiting on my response from Smith & Wesson for a week now and will I get one? I am guessing they will say we were all not doing it correctly... We do a lot of pin in accidents and always used the old reliable 5.00 one, and this knife seemed perfect because the two tools in one.... Now that we got them basically we got an over priced knife and will we use the window punch again? NOPE... Back to our "Oldie but Goodie" ones because they work and this one does not.....

Small
1. This knife is not made by S&W; it is just licensed under their name.2. The blade is spring loaded. The very small safety button is moved, then pull on the back knob to release the blade. To fold the knife, push the liner lock aside.3. The window breaker is released by the lever, then cocked, held against the window, then released. I don't know if it will break a window, but trying to hold it against the window while releasing the lever is iffy. You might just extend the breaker tip and try it manually.4. This is a small knife for me (I have XXL hands) and somewhat slippery. The safety button is IMO too small and hard to see (black on black). It is too easily moved; easy to slide off safety sliding it into your pocket.

Awesome knife. Love it!
Opens in a snap, sharp as a razor, and cuts like a hot knife through butter. Several of my friends have purchased one after seeing it in action.
