Caldigit is well known for making devices for photo and video editors. I am using this with Macbook pro 15 inch 2017: This Caldigit hub is very well made (aluminum could for venting heat) and works as it is supposed to. Its Thunderbolt 3 hardwired to Dual Display port 4k@60hz, Ethernet, USB3. There is also version with two HDMI ports and an extra USB2 port.Many Thunderbolt adapters cost $200 to $350 though they naturally include more ports.I already had Apple AV adapter, Ethernet adapter, USB3 3 port adapter, usbc to display port adapters and more. But these took up every port I had requiring power pass though on either the Apple AV or USB 3 adapter.Please note that if your using external monitor/s lid closed you will have occasional wake from sleep issues getting signal to the displays whether use Apple's AV adapter or any adapters or hubs. Worse case scenario is jack and unjack the usb c connection or wake from macbook keyboard and display.This does not happen to me all the time but it happens. It i less frequent without pass though power since your getting the full 87watts while many pass though powers clip some power some.I am using Dual 32 Inch monitors, external keyboard, mouse, bluetooth Plantronics headset adapter, usb 3 hub, and now I am free to power my macbook pro directly without pass though power. This Caldigit tb hub works very well and requires no software on the mac.

I see a lot of complaints regarding macbook for this device. I don't use mac, so I'm not going to touch on that. I use windows and linux and this thing works with those OS's on standard x86/64 hardware without issues.Also, thunderbolt is not exclusive to Mac, so if you think thunderbolt ports are limited to the mac platform, that isn't true. You are starting to see thunderbolt on many of the newer non-mac based laptops and desktops ... Thunderbolt 3 in particular has up to 40 Gb/s (4 x 10 Gb/s lanes) which is significant for sending multiple streams of video.For comparison, USB 3.1 gen 2 support 10 Gb/s and is one lane. Pretty obvious what Intel was doing when it developed Thunderbolt with Apple.Going forward USB 4 and Thunderbolt 4 will be compatible and backwards compatible with previous versions using the same usb-c port hardware interface ... which means we may finally get to a point where we can just use one cable type for all peripheral connections (printers, monitors, power, etc) in the near future.So if you want something that works great out of the box, I highly recommend this device if you have Windows or Linux running on x86/64 hardware.
