Great, tricky in some houses
This is not battery operated. If your house’s thermostat wiring doesn’t come with a C wire, consider paying for professional installation. The C wire is what supplies constant power to this thermostat, but some houses didn’t bother to run that wire because they assumed your thermostat will use batteries. This does NOT mean you’re out of luck, but it does make the install more complicated. You will either need to run an additional wire through your walls or you’ll need to install the included PEK (not all thermostats of ecobee include it, so check your model and house wiring before buying). The PEK is, in my opinion, an ingenious piece of technology that deserves praise for how magical it seems. It repurposes 2 existing signal wires so that one wire becomes the C wire carrying constant power, and then the other wire carries various voltage levels to indicate multiple signals between thermostat and PEK; the PEK then translates those voltages and splits them back into separate wires for the rest of the system. However, it does require work near or in your HVAC unit. I had to spend a good bit of time carefully inspecting the colored wires, making sure I knew exactly which is which. Again, houses are all different and some might use nonstandard wire colors; for example, my blue wire functioned as the Y wire, with no yellow in sight! You should be absolutely sure of what does what; you’ll probably want to read up on the purpose of each wire. ecobee includes stickers to help you label the wires as you investigate. But once the PEK is installed, the thermostat works beautifully. The touch screen is responsive, it walks you through startup easily, and the app is full of features and settings galore.Again, paying for a professional will save you wiring confusion whether you need the PEK installed or just run a new wire.

Easy installation, so many features.
I'm bias but I love electronics like this. It is polished and just works right out of the box. The instructions (on your phone) walk you step by step through installation for whichever version of the thermostat that you buy. They even prompt you to take some pictures along the way that could be shared with support if you need to call them for any problems. I didn't have any problems so I can't speak to tech support. Out of the box you'll need to connect it to your WiFi and then you have access to most of the controls via the app.. A few things require you to be on the device to adjust, but those are one and done settings. Touch screen and trim ring look gorgeous. My favorite part, being able to set the fan to run a min number of min each hour. Keeps the house from getting stuffy when indoor and outdoor temps are close. The A/C over cool to manage humidity is also great as sometimes the A/C needs to run a little longer to pull the moisture out of the air. Would recommend.

Great investment.
After struggling to read my old thermostat, and doing plenty of research, I invested in this one. Frankly I should have done it a lot sooner. This thermostat runs my home temperatures seamlessly. Once I set up my preferences it took over and I have not had to constantly adjust the settings. I can run it from my phone, my tablet and from the thermostat itself. Easy for a senior to operate. In addition I have saved money by using the suggested settings. Highly recommend this product, easy to install, although I did not install it.

Nice so far
I need some more time to learn using it. It seems fairly easy so far. One star off for lack of 24/7 support from ecobee. *warning! If the unit doesn’t turn on after installation and switching power back on, most likely blew a fuse on your furnace (3a fuse). I guess its more common that not. I have a 10 yr old home and the installation of the ecobee blew the furnace fuse and tripped some one of my power box. Otherwise, the wiring was very simple. The cover plate helped cover up wall imperfections.

The thermostat that the air conditioner repair folks use.
I needed a new heat pump. I asked my a/c company what new thermostat should I get Ecobee is what they use. So far, it’s working great. Nice and easy Bluetooth connection.

Quick & Easy Install
Easy to install. Took about 15 minutes. Already saving on electricity. Much better comfort in house as well. This replaced a builder grade Honeywell thermostat that was hard to program and just difficult over all.

NO way to change settings on multiple Ecobees at once. AVOID!
AVOID AVOID AVOID if you have more than one HVAC zone. Having now used these for a few weeks, I'm disappointed with the absurd amount of tedium and wasted time to control the most basic feature of a device (setting temperature?) across all zones. There is NO WAY to set any features on all thermostats in a home at once. Temperature, Schedules, Comfort Settings must be set for each thermostat INDIVIDUALLY, every single time. Ecobee DEPRECATED group functionality from their consumer product, and they charge $2.50/themostat/month for their commerical offering - even for just two zones! Instead, Ecobee support suggests using Echo devices or Apple HomePods to create a group to change all temperature settings at once. But even with Alexa or HomeKit, you can ONLY change the temperature - no way to change Comfort Settings (use of these in unavoidable, and is key to ecobee's basic functionality), set schedules, and there is NO FAN CONTROL.In some cases, you can control everything from the app. You must phsycially visit the thermostat (e.g. Fan settings). How absolutely PATHETIC for a tech company. They should really be ashamed. It would be SIMPLE for Ecobee to create default, global settings in their app, with individual thermostats set to use their local settings, or use the global defaults.I've had the Ecobee units for about six weeks. During that time, they have disconnected from the cloud several times, rednering the Alexa/HomeKit suggestion useless, but also Ecobee's own app.I'm an extremely disappointed customer who paid a premium for an "enhanced" product. I'm sure it's great if you're in a small apartment with exactly one thermostat. Any configuration with two or more zones (I have six) will make you deeply regret your purchase.I hope I can unload these on eBay.
