Crochet for Beginners: A Stitch Dictionary with Step-by-Step Illustrations and 10 Easy Projects

Excellent, excellent, excellent book!! I originally bought it for my daughter-in-law who is beginning to dabble with yarn and hooks. Before I gave it to her, I had a look through and found myself amazed that I, an experienced crocheter, was also learning things! The book is exceptionally well-written, has awesome pictures and color photos, and has 10 amazing beginner patterns to practice what you’ve learned! End result? I bought a second copy of the book for myself! 😃

Excellent diagrams and photos. Clear and easy to follow. I've even gifted it. Great book.

Amazing view of Crochet

This is a good book. The book is basic don't get me wrong, that is the purpose of it, but there are three issues that I have when I reading this book. The first issue that I have is when the author explained to tools and other essentials tools. Some of the tools are self explanatory, but I wish that she would give a example when she explain the use of the tools. For example, the stitch markers. The explanation of the stitch markers is basic and simple, but I wish she would give a examples of using the stitch marks while crocheting. The second issue that I have when the author explain crochet terms and stitch basics. For example, the slip knot. I had a hard time understanding what is it that I was trying to do base on what the author explained in the first step. It says, STEP 1 TAKE A FEW INCHES OF THE WORKING YARN AND FORM A LOOP WITH YOUR FINGERS. LAY THE LOOP OVER THE WORKING YARN. I wish the author would have said that YOUR LOOP SHOULD LOOK LIKE A PRETZEL or your loop should like this or that, or your chain stitch should look like a braid etc. I can understand that the author can't make a reference on every loop, stitch, or chain, but It would be a good ideal if the author would make some type of reference on the loop, stitch, or chain if the author can. And the last issue that I have with this book is the the yarn selection for the project. Example, the Dish cloth set. In the author book the author says to use PREMIER YARNS HOME COTTON BIG, I don't know if its true or not, but I found out that this particular yarn is discontinued. I wish the author would gave a alternate choice when choosing a yarn, for example IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE YARN THAT IS USED FOR THIS PROJECT, YOU CAN USE YARN A,B, OR C, OR THIS BRAND OF YARN, OR IF YOU CAN'T FIND THAT PARTICULAR COLOR FOR THE PROJECT, YOU CAN USE ANY COLOR OF YOUR CHOICE etc. Overall all this a good book for crocheting for beginners.

Great book for beginners. Easy to understand instructions someone without any experience. Explains all needle sizes, when to use what texture of yard. What I found most helpful was meaning of abbreviations used in instructions.

Definitely a good guide for beginners and their patterns look very manageable. I like how they have pictures along the way as well

Hard to follow

Well written guide to crochet for beginners! Several easy patterns with step by step instructions. I will be referencing this book often.
