Why did I never buy a baking stone before?
I used it for the first time yesterday to bake a pizza and it really did make a difference. The base was crispier and the toppings cooked. To start with I put the stone on the lowest rung of the cold oven (it sounds odd not to put it near the top of the oven, but that's what several different websites said to do). Then turn the oven on to hot, 250 Celsius. Important to have a large broad pizza paddle and spread it with cornmeal or flour before putting the uncooked pizza on it. When the oven is ready, gently slide the pizza off the paddle and on to the hot stone. I say gently because if you give the paddle too much of a quick shove, toppings may come off the pizza. I think I waited about ten minutes till I could see the outside was crispy and the cheese bubbling. Then I used the paddle again to get the pizza off the stone and onto the plate. Best pizza I ever cooked. This stone takes a large pizza and if you want you can lift the hot stone with the pizza out of the oven (carefully as heavy) and place it on the metal cradle supplied, then carry it to the table to cheers all round. I have a couple of reservations: firstly, the cradle bottom sits very low to the table surface, would the heat affect the table? Secondly, the padrone peppers I put on the top of the pizza had charred a little which spoilt their appearance. Perhaps someone who has one of these stones already can put in a helpful comment.

fantastic!
I can't imagine making a home made pizza without this gem of a product. Place it into a cold oven and turn the oven way up high and leave to warm for 30 minutes and pop your pizza on top makes the most amazingly goregous crispy bases i have ever tasted. So easy to clean and stays hot for hours afterwards so turns into a nice warming stone for bread or other products.

Great for home made pizza.
This round granite baking stone weighs in at 6kg with a diameter of 36cm and a height of 2cm.I use this stone mostly for cooking pizza in the oven, it does an amazing job of crisping the pizza base, raising your homemade pizza dough to a whole other level. (If your pardon the pun). I have found this stone very easy to keep clean.

Keeps the pizza piping hot after coming out of the oven, still going strong after two years, no rust on the metal handle - quality product.

Large heavy stone
Substantial stone but very heavy and larger than expected so difficult to stow in a modern kitchen. Have not used it yet but looks up to the job, if you can keep it handy.
