I received a discount on this product to try it out, and leave an honest review.Did the flint spark? YesDid the spark last long enough to start an ember? NoDid the product break on the second attempt to strike it? YesI used tissue paper, an actual tissue/Kleenex, toilet paper, printer paper, paper towel, and then dry leaves and pine straw. There wasn't so much as a singe on any of them after minutes of attempted lighting. There was A LOT of shavings from the flint on it, but none hot enough to do anything. I tested for an entire hour. It probably didn't help that the flint stick broke free of the rubber handle on the SECOND strike. Also, the string holding the steel striker to the flint was a bit to short and made striking very difficult. After a few attempts I just removed the striker entirely to get a better spark. It did spark, but they were never of considerable length, or heat to even singe the tissue paper. I would not recommend this be used for anything except maybe teaching someone how to use a flint. Even in that case you have to hold the stick itself since it broke free from the rubber grip almost instantly. I did not even see any residue on the stick, as if it was not secured AT ALL in the rubber.

I got this fire starter super fast and it works great. When I tried it out, the weather was really temperate so I will be interested to see how it does in windy or even rainy conditions. The products are so light weight and easy to pack that it's an easy purchase to make for your next camping adventure.

Buy stick matches and waterproof them by dipping then in wax. When it's cold my hands don't work real well plus my patience are short. These are the times when it's harder to use a scrapper and magnesium. The waterproof stick matches are WONDERFUL! !!!

Really good fire steel. Well sized. The whistle sounds kinda like a train whistle. Striker is pretty good. Good deal.

Very happy. Everything works well. Firesteel is a tad too long for altoids tin though. 5star from me.
