When "unlocked," the handle will operate the latch to open the door. If the panic bar is in the "dogged" position, the door is always unlocked, and the handle keyset won't make any difference, as the door cannot be locked. I am using it on an outside door. There have been no problems and no rusting. I do not know if the manufacturer intended it to be used outside.

This exit device does not work on narrow style glass doors. If the door is 36 inches wide we recommend that the styles be 6 inches minimum.
